Youth Climate Innovators Power-Up Workshop
The YCIC Power Up Event (January 28–29, 2026), organized by TERI in partnership with Harit by HCLFoundation, was a two-day workshop aimed at nurturing youth-led climate innovation under the theme "Innovate for Impact: Youth-Led Climate Solutions." It served as a preparatory platform for the Youth Climate Innovators Challenge (YCIC), equipping 37 college participants from five Bengaluru institutions with skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, and innovation.
The programme combined expert talks, interactive exercises, and hands-on learning. Day 1 focused on building a "climate innovator mindset," beginning with an inaugural address emphasizing the critical role of youth in climate action. Participants were introduced to YCIC's structure and engaged in activities such as the "Climate Web of My Life" (linking personal experiences to climate issues), local climate realities of Bengaluru, and the Problem-to-Opportunity Tree for systems thinking. A design thinking session further equipped them with structured tools for ideation and prototyping.
Day 2 emphasized application and innovation. Sessions like "Innovation Storm" highlighted educational institutions as hubs for climate solutions. Participants showcased research and technology-driven ideas through competitions and presentations, demonstrating analytical thinking and innovation across sectors such as energy, water, and waste. The "Flip the Script" session fostered lateral thinking and creativity. The event concluded with reflections, awards, and recognition of participants' high-quality ideas.
Through these sessions, participants reported a significant improvement in their understanding of climate change and appreciated the collaborative, engaging, and experiential format.
The event was highly successful in fostering innovation, collaboration, and youth empowerment, strengthening participants' readiness to contribute to climate solutions through the initiative.
